B.V.I. Tuesday, October 6 – Premier Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE today extended birthday wishes and hearty congratulations to Ms. Eliza Turnbull, the Territory’s oldest resident.
As Ms. Turnbull celebrated her 109th birthday today, the Premier said “She has reached the grand old age of 109; that is quite a milestone, not many people would reach to that age.”
Recalling a visit with Ms. Turnbull years ago when she became a centenarian Honourable O’Neal said, “According to Ms. Turnbull, it was hard work and a reliance on the great God whom she believed and trusted in for all things that allowed her to live so long.”
He added, “She was not an idle creature, she did a lot of hard work and a lot of walking and you know walking is one of the best forms of exercise.”
The Premier used the opportunity to encourage residents of the Territory to continuously engage in healthy habits. “It is important to keep fit, eat the right foods and engage in daily exercise.”
A bouquet of roses was presented to Ms. Turnbull by representative for the second district Honourable Alvin Christopher on behalf of the Premier.
It is the policy of Government to cherish, honour and provide for the senior citizens of the Territory by helping them to maintain active, healthy and fulfilling lives.
