Basseterre, St. Kitts (December 21, 2005): An entertaining time is promised calypso fans and music lovers who attend the December 27, "Best of the Rest" and Female Calypso Bacchanal Shows.
The two shows will be held at Carnival Village and have an 8:00 p.m. start time. Fitzroy "Platini" Clarke, chairman of the men's calypso "Best of the Rest," told SKNIS that a number of quality acts will appear on the show.
Defending King Black Beard will attempt to defend his "Best of the Rest" Crown against The Unexpected, Provoker, Little Willie, Lord Black, Neglector, Abba Lively and newcomer Hot Rod. These artistes were chosen based on popularity and consultations with the Director of Culture Creighton Pencheon and Carnival Executive Director Allister Williams. The expert opinions of the calypso tents band leaders and reigning Calypso Monarch Sacrotes also factored into the decision.
Given the reasonable $20.00 entrance fee Mr. Clarke expects a huge turnout. "This is going to be a very exciting show," he said. "Over the years most people attend the big Calypso Finals and the National Queen Pageant, but I think this year we are going to have Carnival Village filled to capacity."
