BVI Press Release
B.V.I. Wednesday, October 7 – Manager of the Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly Nurse Jasmine Joseph is encouraging the public to get more involved with the Home.

Following a recent surge of visits from various church, school, and community groups, Nurse Joseph called on the community to remember the elderly. “They are our riches. Come in and interact with them as there is always something that you can do for the elderly,” she said.

According to Nurse Joseph the Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly has recently become a “centre of attraction” with daily visits by various church groups and other organisations. She said the recent highlights at the Home included the production of a video that will be featured during an upcoming local pageant.

The Home’s manager said a number of upcoming activities have been planned for the residents. They include a visit by members of the BVI Teachers Union later this week as well as a beach outing where they will be transported in the Home’s recently dedicated custom-built Hyundai Country Bus. That activity is scheduled for this Thursday.

While welcoming those achievements, Nurse Joseph thinks more could be done especially at the individual and family levels. “For some reason there are persons who do not want to take care of their elderly, and I think it is wrong. They are our relatives who made us happy so we ought to make them happy and comfortable,” she explained.

Nurse Joseph also mentioned the ongoing contributions of several local groups including Rotaract Club members who visit the home each week and interact with the residents while offering assistance in various ways; and The Moorings which sponsors the home’s annual thanksgiving dinner.

The Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly is a Government-run residential care facility for the elderly. Its primary vision is to create an environment that promotes the independence and a wholesome quality of life for its residents. The Home is supervised by the Ministry of Health and Social Development.
