BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Ministry of Health has quarantined at least 20 people who were deemed to been in close contact with case number 46, who is said to be in isolation and recovering well.
This comes as health officials are working to minimise the fallout from the latest COVID-19 positive case, as Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws concede that it could be the start of a cluster of cases of the virus on the island.
Speaking at today’s (May 20) NEOC Media brief, Dr. Laws disclosed that the current case is a national who works in the Housekeeping Department at a hotel.
CMO Laws confirmed that the individual has not been vaccinated and “this case is probably the first in a cluster”.
“And so at present, the public health team is engaged in robust contact tracing. So, once you would have identified as a case of this nature, the natural trigger is contact tracing,” announced Dr. Laws.
Meanwhile, Dr. Laws informed that testing continues for all people who were deemed to be close contacts and those at the local hotel facility. She disclosed that over 100 samples are being processed and are awaiting results.
A letter, purportedly from the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, is circulating notifying all guests that they would be tested for the virus.
The Federation has recorded 46 cases of COVID-19 with 45 of them having recovered.
