BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation has reached the half century mark in terms of positive Coronavirus cases.

Health officials reported the 50th case last evening (May 22) and pointed out that the person was connected to case #47.

In a press statement, the Ministry of Health disclosed that the person is an international traveller who arrived in the Federation on May 9 and has since been in quarantine.

The Ministry described the individual as being "closely related" to case #47.

This latest case brings to 50 the overall number from 2020 to present with 36 being registered on St. Kitts and 14 on Nevis.

The MoH is still carrying out deep contact tracing to locate all possible contacts of cases 46, 47, 48, 49 and 50.

More attention is now being placed on contacts of cases 46, 48 and 49; all of which are said to be localised cases with no travel history.

Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris, in a national address on Friday (May 21) evening, announced that there were three new cases - 47, 48 and 49.

He also used the platform to provide details of the source of the outbreak of the virus.

During his speech, Dr. Harris revealed that cases 46 and 48 were in contact with an international who arrived from Argentina on May 9.

It was noted that case #49 is a close contact and family member of case #46.

None of the localised cases had a travel history prior to being diagnosed.
