Two more tests positive for COVID-19

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation this morning (May 24) confirmed two additional cases of COVID-19, as deep contact tracing efforts continue following the discovery of localised cases.

An announcement from the Ministry of Health said the discovery of the latest cases is as a result of their contact tracing efforts relating to case #46.

According to a statement from the MoH, case #53 is an imported one and is closely related to case #47.

The latter is an inbound traveller who arrived in the Federation earlier this month and has been described as the source of the two major localised cases - numbers 46 and 48.

The Ministry revealed today that case #53 is an individual who was an inbound passenger that arrived in the Federation on May 9, 2021, and that case #54 is a national and had close contact with case #49.

The two individuals are in isolation at a COVID-19 certified facility, the Ministry said, noting that those additional cases bring the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases to 54, with 40 cases for St. Kitts and 14 for Nevis.

“Please note that 45 cases have fully recovered with zero deaths. There are now nine (9) active cases. These patients are stable and are being monitored,” the Ministry stated.

Meantime, health officials are pleading with citizens and residents to ensure that they continue to adhere to the COVID-19 prevention and control measures, which include wearing a face mask, maintaining good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distance of at least six feet from others when in public places and avoiding crowds and events.

Moreover, people are urged to get vaccinated as every health center will be opened today to facility those interested in receiving their doses.
