BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Ministries of Health and Education have shut down operations at the Sandy Point Primary School for two weeks, as students and teachers were forced to be quarantined and await their COVID-19 results.
While updating the nation on the latest COVID-19 situation last evening (May 23), Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws explained that as the Ministry of Health continues with its robust contact tracing exercise out of an abundance of caution, the education institution has been closed for two weeks.
This comes as the Minister carried out an extensive testing exercise on students and teachers at the school, as there are localised cases of COVID-19, and contact tracing has provided a number of links to infected cases.
The CMO offered an apology for the inconvenience, but noted that her Ministry plans to leave no stone unturned in its efforts to curtail the spread of the virus.
“We continue to urge you to adhere to the COVID-19 prevention and control measures. These include wearing a face mask, maintaining good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distance of at least six feet from others,” added Dr. Laws.
