BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - EDUCATION officials on both St. Kitts and Nevis have closed all education institutions across the islands out of an abundance of caution, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread.

The Ministry of Health last evening (May 24) confirmed an additional six cases of COVID-19 on St. kitts and contact tracing efforts and testing are ongoing on both islands.

However, concerns are being expressed as one institution was closed and reports emanated that students from another institution are being tested for the virus.

In a joint statement from the Ministries of Health and Education, it was noted that as the extensive contact tracing exercise continues, a proactive decision was taken to close all schools in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

It specificall sated that those learning institutions are all public and private schools in the Federation, noting that “at the Early Childhood, primary and secondary levels are physically closed for the next two weeks effective Tuesday, May 25, 2021. This is in an effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus”.

The Ministry is assuring the public that all measures are being taken to restrict the spread of the Coronavirus.

Against that backdrop, residents are urged to adhere to the COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

Those measures include wearing a face mask, maintaining good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distance of at least six feet from others when in public places and avoiding crowds and events.
