BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation, last evening (May 25), recorded another case of the Coronavirus after samples of a national returned positive.
In disclosing the latest case, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws said that the person is linked to cases 51 and 52.
The announcement came several hours after St. Kitts and Nevis was placed under curfew by Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris to slow the spread of the virus within the community.
Last week, it was disclosed that the Federation saw community spread when two hotel workers were tested positive and several of their contacts also returned the same results.
While appearing on the Government’s ‘Leadership Matters Programme’ last evening, Dr. Laws emphasised that case number 61 has been placed in isolation.
So far, St. Kitts has reported 47 cases and Nevis 14, but there have been no deaths on record since the onset of the pandemic last year.
Dr. Laws announced that 47 of the 61 cases have so far recovered from the virus and 16 cases are active.
It was revealed that among the active cases are seven children, all of whom are said to be in the range between three-15 years. The remaining nine are all adults between 33-49 years.
“The active cases are stable and are being monitored. We are working assiduously to contain this cluster of COVID-19 cases,” Dr. Laws stated.
