By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CHIEF Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws informed that the Federation, over the last 24, has hours recorded three additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number to 64.

While providing a situation report at last evening’s (May 26) NEOC media briefing, Dr. Laws disclosed that there are now 19 active cases of COVID-19 in the Federation with 45 of them to having recovered from the ailment.

A breakdown of the data shows that there are 50 cases on St. Kitts and 14 on Nevis, and health officials on both islands are still carrying out deep contact tracing efforts.

One such effort is geared to schools on the islands.

Health officials yesterday tested students from the Washington Archibald High School, Basseterre High School, Seventh Day Adventist Primary School and the Tyrrell Williams Primary School.

The CMO noted that up until last Tuesday, they would have tested up to 700 persons in the contact tracing efforts, and a further 200 samples were taken when the learning institutions were visited yesterday.

All of this is occurring at a time when public health officials are working assidiously to minimise the fallout from the discovery of cases #46 and #48.

In the area of vaccination, the CMO disclosed that 51.6 percent of the target population has received the first dose, while 19.6 percent, or 5,968, received the second dose.

A breakdown highlights that 17,579 doses were issued on St. Kitts and 5,761 on Nevis.
