Weekend Vibes: Recognition for teachers

Yolanda
By: Nevis Bureau, SKNVibes
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – OCTOBER is teachers’ month and amid calls for these hard-working public servants to be elevated to the status of other professionals in society, Weekend Vibes took the opportunity to ask Nevisians if they believe teachers get the recognition they deserve.

Yolanda – No! I think they should be a system in place for teachers to get more recognition. In this day and age children are difficult to deal with and it takes a lot out of the teachers to deal with these kids.

Denny – No! Because they take most of their time to nurture our kids and I don’t think they are being paid enough, especially when they do it on weekends and holidays.

Parpa – No! Teachers don’t get enough recognition because it is only when its World Teacher’s Day they are recognised a little. They should be recognised for their sterling contribution to society and country. It is said that education is the wealth of the nation…without teachers this is not possible.

Yellow –  Yes! What more they want? They had teachers too. How they recognised their teachers is the same thing they get, once a year.

Barman – No! Because the teachers get too much stress. Who is not playing man is playing woman; pants below waist and skirt above knee, thinking about sex and all kind of things. Ask them one plus one and they can’t answer. They can’t even tell the difference between their elbow and toe. The teachers have to put out too much effort to put our kids in line. They should be highly recognised. The kids need to respect the teachers and the parents need to stop curse the teachers and teach their kids respect because they can’t do the job as teachers.
