CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - ALSTON PHILLIP, the man who was charged with the murder of Lydia Jacobs and attempted murder of Mishkin Brookes and Erica Williams, was yesterday (May 27) sentenced to life imprisonment.

According to a police press release, 46-year-old Phillip of Hamilton Village, Nevis was found guilty by a unanimous verdict on Wednesday (May 19) and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 35 years for Murder and six years and six months each for the two counts of Attempted Murder.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Jacobs was reportedly shot at approximately 10:55 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 in the yard of her Grace Development Housing residence in Church Ground.

SKNVibes, at that time, understood that the 37-year-old woman was returning home from work at the Four Seasons Resort and was transported there by vehicle within which were Brookes and Williams.

It was also understood that Phillip fired a number of shots at the vehicle, thus the two counts of Attempted Murder.

Jacobs was taken to the Alexandra Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

On the following morning, police had taken Phillip into custody to assist them in their investigation into the crime.

Some four days later, a police press release stated that he was formally arrested, cautioned and charged with the three offences.
