Hon Vance Amory Premier of Nevis |
CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 23, 2005) -- Premier of Nevis Hon Vance Amory has called on the public to exercise caution over the Christmas season particularly road users. He also called on parents to care for the youth. His appeal came during his 2005 Christmas Day message.
I must make a special appeal to all road users - do not drink and drive - use the road with care, remembering the life you save could be your own.
"I must also encourage all of our parents in our communities to pay attention to our young people, to provide them with the type of guidance necessary for good social development to enable them to make a positive contribution to the total development of our country. Encourage them to avoid crime and violence which can be detrimental to all of us" he said.
While Mr Amory asked persons to remember God and to give thanks, he urged citizens to share with the less fortunate, to pay attention to their health and also to respect each other with regard to the noise levels in their homes particularly in residential areas.
The Premier noted too, that during the past year the atmosphere on Nevis had been one of calm and peace which had allowed persons on the island to engage in their daily business without much disturbance which he attributed to the Nevis Island Administration's (NIA) encouragement to Police Officers to maintain law and order without which Nevis could not continue to prosper.
"I believe that our people have been well served and you have enjoyed the good things which this country has to offer. It is my hope that we will have a wonderful Christmas season," he said.
In the spirit of the New Year, Mr Amory said the NIA would set new goals in anticipation of great things especially with the forward-looking projection which our government has set out in its 2006 budget. I have great expectations for the New Year especially for our young people.
"It is my hope that all of us can so act at this time that we have no serious setbacks as individuals or as a country and we enjoy the Christmas Season with love, peace and joy," he said.
