BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation this evening (May 28) recorded four additional cases of the Coronavirus, taking the total number to 68.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws made the announcement while updating the nation at the NEOC media brief, where she stated that the four people are nationals of the Federation.
These new cases are said to be contacts of existing cases of the virus.
“So, at present, the Federation would have announced 68 confirmed cases. Fifty-four cases from St. Kitts and 14 cases from Nevis. At present, we have 23 active cases. At the Ministry of Health, we are monitoring 23 cases; 45 cases are fully recovered,” noted Dr. Laws.
The CMO also stated that the Ministry continues with its robust contact tracing efforts and they have entered a number of schools, including several of them in Sandy Point.
She disclosed that 128 students were tested at the Sandy Point Primary School over the weekend, while on Monday 128 were tested from the Charles E Mills Secondary School and all the households have been asked to be self-quarantined.
On Wednesday (May 26), health officials visited Basseterre High School, where 106 students were tested. On that same day, they also visited Washington Archibald High School and tested 144 students, thence to the Seventh Day Adventist School, where 30 students were tested and 161 samples were sent for review from Tyrrell Williams Primary School.
According to the CMO, 441 students were tested and they too were asked to be self-quarantined.
A total of 760 persons have been tested over the last several days and 63 of them are at either a government-designated quarantine facility or a certified hotel.
It was also stated that 697 people were asked to be self-quarantine.
