BASSETERRE (13th October 2009) – More than 150 students from secondary and post secondary schools in St. Kitts will be given the chance to work in the tourism industry, as part of the activities celebrating Tourism Awareness Month.
The Student Work Experience Program will run from next week Monday to Friday, and will involve students interning in nearly every sector of the tourism industry.
With the theme, “Lets Co-operate and make our Tourism Industry Great,” Tourism Awareness month is designed to bolster the participation of the public in all matters tourism, with particular focus on the youth.
Organizer of the program, Wanda Connor, said every high school in St. Kitts will participate in the program.
“The work programme continues to expose students to possible careers within in the tourism industry. It also places emphasis on the importance of quality service,” Connor said.
The students will be briefed about what is expected of them in a workshop this Friday at Ocean Terrace Inn.
“This orientation will expose them to practical elements of the program and will allow them to share their opinions of the industry from their perspective.”
