By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER months of murmuring, St. Lucia’s Prime Minister Allen Chastenet has announced the date for the island’s General Elections.

He has announced that Monday, July 26 would be the date when the people would head to the polls, and that Friday, July 16 would be Nomination Day.

This announcement was made during a national address on Sunday  evening (July 4), in which the Prime Minister explained that he directed the Governor-General to dissolve Parliament on the following day, which is in keeping with the laws of the land.

The elections are occurring during the island's fight against the COVID-19 outbreak, which has affected all sectors of the economy.

PM Chastenet disclosed that the two major political parties have agreed to abide by the protocols established by the island’s Chief Medical Officer and the Commissioner of Police.

He called for both sides to respect each other during the campaign as the groundwork begins.
