The Social Security Board welcomed a new cohort of High School Scholarship Awardees in an impressive ceremony on Thursday afternoon 8th October 2009. Seven bright but deserving students from across the Federation received certificates of scholarship while their parents or wards signed letters of commitment sealing the partnership forged by the Social Security Board.
The students were: Tianna Bowery of the Washington Archibald High School; Romelo Davis of the Verchilds High School; Kianno Fraser of the Charlestown Secondary School; Anchelle Hinds of the Cayon High School; Sheldon Richards of the Saddlers High School; Kyle Trotman of the Basseterre High School; and Arnelle Williams of the Sandy Point High School.
Highlights of the ceremony included addresses by the Director of Social Security Mrs. Sephlin Lawrence, Chairman of the Social Security Board Mr. Halva Hendrickson, Chairperson of the Board’s Scholarship Committee Ms. Eslyn Swanston, and Minister with responsibility for Social Security Hon. Former Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee Ms. Susanna Lee (after whom the scholarship program has been named) was on hand to present the certificates and to join the children in a photo opportunity. The Susanna Lee High School Scholarship was so named in 2007.
