Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, 14th October, 2009: The People’s Action Movement has organized a special convention of its membership for Sunday 25th October, 2009 at its party Head Quarters, Lockhart Street, Basseterre at 2:00 p.m. October 25 is the 5th anniversary date of the election of the St Kitts Nevis Labour party to office in the Federation.
Ordinarily, Federal elections would have been held by this time. In an effort to frustrate the will of the electorate Denzil Douglas attempted to change the electoral boundaries days before the general elections.
The People’s Action Movement regarding this attempt as an act of political manipulation and political corruption moved to the courts to challenge this unconstitutional afront to the rule of law. The Federation now awaits the judgment of the High Court.
The Prime Minister is the only person in the Federation who can legally call the election. We call upon him to revoke the proclamation and call the election now.
The People’s Action Movement invites its member’s friends and supporters to attend this special convention on Sunday 25th October, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., as we outline our plans and programs up until the Prime Minister has the courage to call the election and the people are given the opportunity to elect a government of their choosing.
