Massachusetts /July 30, 2021/CMMInc….. The Authentic Caribbean Foundation (ACF) will be offering neuro-divergent training this summer to Caribbean educators who work with the Disability community. The program is the result of a partnership between ACF and Lesley University Caribbean Institute, Teaching for Neurodiversity and is geared at addressing the educational needs of neuro-divergent children diagnosed along the spectrum of Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia. This major initiative will be offered in The Bahamas, August 2; Jamaica, August 9 and Saint Kitts & Nevis August 16. Saint Lucia completed its training on July 12 and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, July 26. Other countries will come on-board at a later date.
Approximately 100 educators from each country will be trained. The training which is virtual will last for one week for each group at the end of which they will receive a certificate of completion. Participants will have the option to seek further accreditation with the university through an extended program.
According to Co-Directors of the Caribbean Institute, Teaching for Neurodiversity at Lesley University, Drs. Louise Michelle Vital and Amy Gooden, the goal of the Summer 2021 Building Inclusive Teaching and Learning Classrooms, is to provide a series of intensive professional development workshops for educators to examine best practices, current research, and practical tools to create inclusive environments for neuro-diverse students who are diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia. “As the Institute Co-Directors it is our honor partnering with the Authentic Caribbean Foundation to offer this week-long training program for teachers and educational administrators. We look forward to future opportunities for connection and collaboration.”
The ACF has spearheaded numerous philanthropic and humanitarian efforts across the Caribbean Region over the years providing back to school supplies as well as food and clothing items to the disability and various other communities. The organization is well known and respected in Massachusetts for its community activism around health, education, economic and social causes.
