SANTIAGO, CHILE (August 5, 2021) — As the capital of Chile prepares to host its first Pan American Games in history, organizers of the Games want your help to select the Official Mascot of Santiago 2023.

The five finalists of Juanchi, Fiu, Santi, Chitama and Pewü were chosen by the Organizing Committee after receiving many proposals from professional design agencies in Chile. Now its up to sports fans throughout the world to vote for their favorite that will represent the more than 7,000 athletes and para-athletes who will compete at the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Chile.

“The Pan American and Parapan American Games are already a reality and we want Chileans to be part of this historic sports festival. We hope that everyone can vote for the Official Mascot and that with their vote we choose together the mascot that will represent us before the world,” said Santiago 2023 President and Chilean Sports Minister, Cecilia Perez.

Each of the five mascots has a unique story that adds character and helps bring their design to life.

“We received many very attractive proposals. Each of the five finalists have a great story behind them to help the public make the best decision and decide the Official Mascot of the Games. We invite everyone to be part of this beautiful process,” said Santiago 2023 Executive Director, Felipe De Pablo.

Chileans and fans across the globe have three weeks to choose their favorite before the voting process closes on August 25. After the votes are tallied, the Official Mascot of Santiago 2023 will be revealed based on the results of the public vote.

“We are happy to launch this voting process. There are 41 countries that will participate in the Games and millions of people who will set their eyes on our country from this moment on. Everyone can visit our website and vote easily and quickly for their favorite mascot. We hope that everyone participates and now we wait to see who is the favorite of the public,” added Chilean Olympic Committee President, Miguel Angel Mujica.

Learn more about the five finalists below.

    JUANCHI
I am a penguin unlike any other. Despite not being able to fly, I can reach the top with my optimism and resilience. Although I am an endangered species, I still fight to keep playing, swimming and laughing. I fly through the water like a torpedo and I can adapt to different climates. I am an all-terrain species with qualities that will take me to the top of the podium.

    FIU
I am a bird with seven colors who lives in the wetlands of Chile. My colors represent the diversity of human beings and especially athletes. Being small does not make it difficult to give my best effort. Like athletes, every day is a new challenge for me. My colors signify strength, perseverance, respect, determination, honesty, companionship and passion.

    SANTI
I am a winged mountain puma, who has come down to the city of Santiago to give life to the Games. I live in the high peaks of the Santiago Valley. Although I have rarely been seen by human beings, I will travel to the city to demonstrate my athletic abilities at Santiago 2023. I am determined, fast, a great jumper and I always give my all to show off my great ability and dexterity.

    CHITAMA
I am an Atacama running lizard, a species that represents the unique qualities that make me an ideal mascot to overcome challenges. I have received the most applause and medals for my agility and persistence, since I manage to live and give my maximum effort despite the inclement weather. My friendship with people is a remarkable value, since those who manage to see it discover scales of a soft and friendly character.

    PEWÜ
I am a Chilean pine nut from an ancient tree called Araucaria. My name means "spring and reunion." As a sacred fruit, I represent the energy, passion, conviction and inclusion of my people. I want to invite you to a better world, where sport and caring for the environment inspire new generations of athletes. I like sport because it allows us to fulfill our dreams and mine is to become Araucaria. Perseverance is my flag.
