BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation is set to benefit from a donation of Pfizer Vaccine from the United States Government to fight against the spread of the Coronavirus.

According to Premier Mark Brantley, St. Kitts and Nevis is one of six territories within the region that would benefit over 837,000 doses of the US-made vaccine, which is said to be over 90 percent effective against the virus.

Trinidad and Tobago, The Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts-Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are all said to benefit from the generosity of the Biden Administration.

According to Juan González, the National Security Council’s Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere, The Bahamas would receive 397,000 doses, followed by Trinidad and Tobago with more than 305,000 doses, while Barbados would receive 70,200 doses, 35,100 are slated for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 17,550 for Antigua and Barbuda and 11,700 for St. Kitts and Nevis.

González was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, “The Biden-Harris administration’s highest priority in the Americas today is managing and ending the COVID pandemic and contributing to equitable recovery.”

St. Kitts and Nevis has a preference for the AstraZeneca Vaccine, but that preference has since changed as sourcing additional doses has become a challenge for the Federation due to international restrictions.

Currently, 60 percent of the target population has been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca Vaccine.

In his social media post, Brantley  acknowledged the efforts of regional leaders for their efforts and congratulated Prime Minister Timothy Harris, Minister of Health Akilah Byron-Nisbett and Attorney-General Vincent Byron Jr.
