BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EAST STREET resident Gerard ‘Saddam’ Stapleton was sentenced to prison following his conviction of a beating an individual.

Stapleton appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court earlier this week and was convicted of “battery” and two counts of “making use of threatening language”.

According to a police press release, the batter offence and one of the two incidents of making use of threatening language were committed on January 13, 2009 while the other count arose out of an incident that occurred on January 21, 2009.

The young man was sentenced to serve one month imprisonment on the battery conviction, one month on the first count of making use of threatening language and was cautioned on the second count.

The sentences are to run consecutively.

Two other individuals were also convicted at that sitting of the Magistrate Court but for drug-related offences.

Upper Monkey Hill resident Patricia France was convicted of “possession of marijuana” and was issued a $2 000-fine, which is to be paid within the next four months or, in default, serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison. The offence is said to have been committed on December 18, 2008.

Alexis Decosta, a resident of Sandy Point, was also convicted of marijuana possession and ordered to pay a fine of $1 500 within the next four months or serve two months at Her Majesty’s Prison.  His offence, police say, was committed on June 5, 2008.
