Police seize 25th illegal firearm for 2009

Pistol found during police operation

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OPERATIONS by the Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force have resulted in the seizure of a pistol in Buckley’s Estate, making it the 25th illegal firearm found in the Federation this year.
     
    The catch occurred during a routine patrol by Strike Force members on Monday (Oct. 12) in which they searched a group of young men at a bar in Buckley’s Estate. However, nothing was found on their person, but while combing the area where they had been sitting, the officers found a .22 pistol and a quantity of marijuana.
     
    According to a police release, the items were taken into custody and also the eight young men who were in that area.
     
    In other news, a juvenile was shot by police in the process of his apprehension. A police communiqué issued yesterday (Oct. 15) revealed that “At about 2:50 a.m., police responded to alarm activation at the St. Kitts Brush Company at the Paul Southwell Industrial Park. The officers met two 16-year-old juveniles in the building and in the process of apprehending them one of the juveniles sustained a gunshot injury, while the other made his escape through a glass door”.
     
    The injured juvenile was taken to the Joseph N France Hospital for treatment and was detained in stable condition. He was subsequently arrested and is currently in police custody.
