One dies in traffic accident at Douglas Estate

    Police investigate Cayon fatal accident
     
    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A male motorcyclist had reportedly died on Wednesday (Aug. 18) following a traffic accident in Douglas Estate.

     

    Dead is 24-year-old Ziron Roberts of Newtown.

     

    According to a police report, the accident occured sometime before midday on that fateful Thursday at Douglas Estate.

     

    Investigations so far revealed that motor pickup PA7453, which is registered to The Cable Company but was being driven by Ronnel Fyfield of Cardin Avenue, was travelling southward along the Main Roan at Douglas Estate.

     

    When Fyfield reached in the vicinity of a mango tree, he was making a right turn into Carifesta Village, Phase 1, when another vehicle was approaching from the opposite direction along the Main Road.

     

    The driver slowed down the vehicle to give way to PA7453.

     

    At that time, Roberts, who was riding motorcycle PA1426, overtook the vehicle that slowed down and collided with the pickup. 

     

    The District Medical Doctor was summoned and pronounced Roberts dead at the scene.

     

    On Friday (Aug. 20), an autopsy was performed on his body by Resident Pathologist, Dr. Adrian Nuñez, who concluded that death was due to hypovolemic shock and multiple traumatic injuries as a result of a motor vehicular accident.
     
    This traffic accident has taken the number of fatalities for this year to two.

     

    The first one occurred in Cayon on Thursday, July 29 and had involved motorcycle PA5745, which is owned by Chesen Glasgow of Challengers but was being ridden by 37-year-old Gavin Herbert of Lime Kiln. 

     

    Police investigations revealed that sometime after 3:00 p.m. on that day, PA5745 was travelling from Basseterre to Cayon. However, when Herbert got in the vicinity of the junction at Spooners, he lost control of the motorcycle, struck a tree and collided with the curb wall.

     

    He was transported to the JNF General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, July 31.
     
    An autopsy was performed on his body on Wednesday (Aug. 4) by Resident Pathologist, Dr. Adrian Nuñez who concluded that death was due to intracerebral haemorrhage by severe head injury.
