BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ORGANISERS of the Caribbean Premier League have confirmed that there are two positive COVID-19 cases among persons who recently arrived in the Federation for the tournament.

The tournament, which bowls off on Thursday (Aug. 26), saw 255 persons entering St. Kitts and Nevis, and among that number two would have returned positive test of the virus and are said to be confined to their rooms.

CPL in a statement disclosed that following a rigorous testing process there have been two cases of COVID-19 detected, and a comprehensive contact tracing process has taken place along with additional testing and that no further cases have been identified.

Though the organisers have not revealed the identity of the individuals, Espncricinfo stated that Carlos Braithwaite was asked to self isolate after he was deemed to have travelled on a flight with a positive case to St. Kitts and Nevis.

“The two individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are isolating as per the comprehensive protocols that have been put together by the tournament organising committee, Hero CPL’s medical advisors and the health authorities in St. Kitts & Nevis,” noted CPL.

Commenting on the case, Michael Hall, Hero CPL’s Tournament Operations Director, said: “The two positive cases were identified quickly following on arrival testing and were flagged with Hero CPL while in room quarantine was still taking place for those individuals. The tournament bubble remains intact and there has been no exposure to the wider public in the Federation. We are looking forward to getting the cricket underway on the 26 August.”

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Hazel Laws reminded that the players have all entered a bubble and strict measures are in place for the bubble environment.
