Nu Vybes impresses at Michael’s

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER a three-month hiatus, Nu Vybes performed Saturday night (Oct. 17) before a large number of their fans at Michaels, located at the Strip in Frigate Bay, and they did not miss a note in playing the type of music the band is known to produce.

The last time the band performed in the Federation was at the Sweet Sister Sensia Birthday Bash on July 18.

Since then, the band had been performing at overseas gigs including Tortola, St. Thomas and Miami.

Seemingly starved for the sweetness of the Sugar Band, hundreds of fans went out to give their support and danced the whole night long until the wee hours of Sunday.

The band delivered a number of their hit songs, but when it was time for Video Light the female fans made their way to the front of the stage to “wuk up wid de lights on”.

According to a source, the changes/replacements in the band, due to different factors, have strengthened it both musically and on a personal level.

Those replacements included the keyboardist and drummer.

Not only were fans of the band present at the fete, but curious onlookers and also persons who attended to see if the Sugar Band still had ‘pep’.

SKNVibes observed that several managers of bands in St. Kitts and Nevis were present, including Judith Liburd of the Ultrasonics Band, Gregory Warner of the Small Axe Band, Shervin Whyte of Kollision Band and Seanel Herbert of the Lights Out Band.

Commenting on Nu Vybes’ performance, one of the managers told this media house that the band played “okay”.

“They were much better than when they played at Sensia Bash, but they still have much work to do. Their performance tonight shows that they have been practicing. They sounded very rehearsed and they stuck to how they practiced, but we’re not worried about them or any other band this Carnival.”

Leader of the Nu Vybes Band, Gregory ‘Mr. Mention’ Hobson, told SKNVibes that it was a heart-warming performance.

“It was a joy, not only because of the band playing but because of the challenge; because we know people were judging us already,” Hobson said.

He said their new album is close to completion and the aim of it always remains the same, which is producing music with international appeal.

He said although the members might change the plans remain the same, and that the album is about Nu Vybes and its fans.

Hobson said that the album would be completed in the next two weeks.
