BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- IT was a moment of jubilation for fans of the St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots after their team qualified for the final of the Caribbean Premier League, when they beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 7 wickets today (Sept. 14).
Chasing a below par 178 of their allotted 20 overs, the home side was led by Evin Lewis’ unbeaten 77 from 39 balls. He was ably supported by Chris Gayle, who hammered the Amazon Warriors bowlers to all corners of the Warner ParkCricket Stadium, in an inning of 42 off 27.
In that knock, Gayle struck 5x4s and 3x6s before he was dismissed by Kevin Sinclair.
The bowlers had to answer for the Patriots openers who held firm with a 76-run partnership.
Losing the toss and being inserted, the Guyana Amazon Warriors were immediately on the back foot and never got consistent partnerships.
Shirmon Hetmyer blasted the bowlers in the back end to ensure that there was a respectable target on the board to defend.
In the end, that proved to be little due to a poor bowling effort from the Warriors.
The Patriots will now lockhorns with the St. Lucia Kings tomorrow from 10:00 a.m.
