The Cable imparts a lesson of corporate generosity to the Ministry of Education

By: The Cable, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, 17 September 2021 -- Teachers and students of Primary and Secondary schools in St. Kitts are returning to top-tier internet service at their respective schools, compliments The Cable. When the company was approached to confirm internet service availability for the Ministry’s virtual Summer Workshop, they took the opportunity to assess the service at the schools involved. All of the government’s primary and secondary schools’ Internet service was then upgraded to the company’s highest service tier with download speeds of 160 Mbps and upload speeds of 35Mbps.

Considering the fluid nature of the current Covid pandemic and the pending re-opening of school, the company generously extended the upgrade for the entire month of September. Its Chief Executive Officer, Patricia Walters explained, “The extension was made with the hope of minimizing the disruption of classes should things change in the early weeks of the school year and the schools need to default to online learning. The infrastructure would already be in place so there would be little to no disruption.”

The company’s forward-thinking gesture was not just limited to the schools but also benefitted teachers. In addition to the boost in Internet service at the schools, the company upgraded the accounts of nearly 70 teachers who are also its customers. “We could not have conceived of a better way to empower our teachers than to equally ensure their ability to deliver seamless service working from home,” said the company’s CEO Patricia Walters. “The future of education and its success will be largely dependent on our teachers’ access to the digital space, and we have not overlooked that fact here at The Cable,” she underscored.

A company official has valued the cost of this act of corporate generosity at over $50,000. The Cable is known to be a strong advocate of digitization, more recently providing free WIFI connectivity to all 17 community centers around St. Kitts. The Company also provides free public WIFI access in Basseterre which was made permanent at the beginning of this year.
