Team-Unity Government continues to empower persons through property ownership

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 24, 2021 (SKNIS): The Team-Unity Government of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to empower the citizens of the Federation with property ownership through programmes aimed at low-income earners.
 
During the Wellington Road House Allocation Ceremony on September 17, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris said that the administration is removing citizens and residents from difficult situations.
 
“You are off to a better start and we hope that you will show appreciation by doing what our chairperson invited you to do to, try to keep current for as long as you can and as often as you can with your payments to the NHC,” Prime Minister Harris said.
 
“It is important because if you pay well, you create the opportunity for others to be able to become beneficiaries and that next batch may be your relative, your friend, your villager, so I want to invite you to be good stewards of these properties and of course the entire space on which this beautiful edifice now resides,” he added.
 
Minister of Social Development and Gender Affairs, Eugene Hamilton said that “This particular housing project was the brainchild of Ian Patches Liburd who was elected as a PAM representative in East Basseterre but served in a Unity Government for five years.”
 
He also stated that “These 24 units here that are being given out today are unique but these are not the only units we are giving out this year. We are going to give out 18 units in Stapleton, and 16 in Conyers later this year.”
 
Minister Hamilton also announced his middle-income programme where the monthly cost of these homes go from 1,500 and up. He said, “Housing is going to be built not only for ordinary people but those in the middle income as well.”
 
He added, “Those people who just came back from University and have a graduate’s salary and NHC can’t build for them and yet the bank is giving them trouble because they have some loan from their education to pay, we will find a way to find housing for those people as well.”
 
Minister Hamilton advised the persons who are going to live at the Wellington Road Housing Complex to take good care of the premises on both the interior and exterior.
