PAM holds Massive Victory Rally to Celebrate Historic Court Decision

PAM Secretariat
Basseterre, St.Kitts (October 19th 2009):-Monday 19th October was a historic day in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis when the High Court in Basseterre handed down a stunning victory for democracy and the rule of law and against the government of Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas. The victorious team of the People’s Action Movement headed by plaintiffs the Hon Shawn Richards and Mr. Lindsay Grant celebrated with jubilant supporters in a massive rally in East Basseterre . The rally drew thousands of supporters to the heart of the Capital ,Basseterre,  to hear the real story about the legal decision in the wake of an extensive campaign of propaganda put on by the ruling Labour Party Government that tried to twist comprehensive defeat into victory. It quickly became clear to all who listened at the rally or live on WINNFM radio that being a stranger from the truth has spread throughout the Labour government camp.

All the candidates except Mr. Bernard Welsh who will vie for Constituency #3 in the keenly anticipated General Elections spoke at the rally. Mr. Welsh was unavoidably absent on account of the trauma his family suffered at the hand of as yet unknown assailants last weekend.

The meeting began with a sober invocation giving thanks to Almighty God for the victory for democracy not just in the Federation but also the entire Commonwealth Caribbean that barely contained the crowd before euphoria erupted.

Speaker after speaker could hardly contain their excitement as they discussed the various ways the legal victory boosts the campaign of the People’s Action Movement. It was pointed out that for the umpteenth time since 1967 the People’s Action Movement has achieved a victory over a corrupt and dictatorial Labour government which has never won a case in a court of law. The decision overturned the proclamation hastily forced through Parliament in July by the Prime Minister in the face of an injunction from the High Court preventing the laying or making use of the Report of the Boundaries Commission. That disrespect for the Court caused the Attourney General to become the first in the Commonwealth to be found in Contempt of Court and increasing calls have been made for his resignation ever since that decision in mid August.

Those at the rally came decked in triumphant gold, the official Party colour, and brought scores of bells as symbolic gifts to the Prime Minister so he can now do the right thing and call the General Elections. The celebrations went on from around 8pm until after midnight as Party supporters and citizens who are simply tired of the shenanigans of this incompetent and corrupt Labour government enjoyed revelry until the wee hours. There was a champagne toast at the end of the speaking session as the candidates gathered onstage.
