BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CITIZENS and reaidents of the twin-island Federation woke this morning (Oct. 4) to the shocking news of the passing of prominent Attorney-at-Law and former President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association, Anthony Johnson.
The news of his sudden demise has seen a continuous flow of condolences and tributes not only from the local football fraternity, but also from the local arm of a US-based non-governmental organisation.
Johnson, who recently stepped asaside as President of the SKNFA, had served in that capacity for three terms from 2009 to 2021.
The RAMS Village Superstars Club wrote in part on social media that it is a sad and painful day in the football fraternity with the shocking news “of the most recent former SKNFA President, Mr. Anthony Johnson’s demise, our hearts broke”.
“We are eternally grateful for your unwavering service and love to football and the wider community here in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
The SKNFA also reflected on the contributions of the former President of the local governing body.
“On behalf of the executive and member clubs of the St. Kitts Nevis Football Association we extend sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Johnson served as President from 2009 to 2021 and was instrumental in the growth of the game of football in St. Kitts and Nevis. We’ll pray for peace and comfort during this time of mourning. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
The local arm of the US-based CARES Foundation, in which Johnson was a member, also paid tribute. This Foundation is a non-governmental organisation with a mission statement that says it “leads in the effort to improve the lives of the Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia community and seeks to advance quality health care through advocacy,education, research and support”.
The cause of Anthony Johnson’s death has not yet been made public.
