    Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin holds painting done by Rosie Cameron of Spencer Cameron Art Gallery
    Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 09, 2004):
    Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #5 Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin has been showered with praise and best wishes for her dedication to serving the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. 
     
    On Friday (March 5) members of the Henry and Martin families joined with employees of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport in throwing a surprise party for Minister Henry-Martin. The event was organised to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the Minister being elected to serve as the representative of Constituency #5 in the National Parliament.
     
    Speeches were given by Permanent Secretary Lloyd Lazar, Director of Sport Leroy Greene, Leslie ‘Sugar Bowl’ Morton and Jasmine Clarke-Hazel of ZBC, and Senior Information Officer Glen Bart of SKNIS.

    Highlights of the party were a special performance by the Director of Culture Creighton Pencheon and Drumming Specialist Royd Phipps, and the presentation of a portrait to the minister which drew huge cheers from the party goers.
     
    The painting done in the likeness of Henry-Martin was done by Rosie Cameron of Spencer Cameron Art Gallery.

    Then on Sunday (March 7) the Minister and her Cabinet colleagues worshiped  with supporters of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party at a church service to commemorate the four-year anniversary of the party’s second term in office. 
     
    “We all need prayer,” Minister Henry-Martin told the congregation of the Lighthouse

    Baptist Church. “As ministers of government charged with the awesome responsibility of representing all nationals and residents of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, we are grateful for every word of prayer said on our behalf.”
     
    The minister said the government has faced many challenges but has persevered and must give thanks to God. “As a government we have accomplished much for the people of this Federation.
     
    We have been advancing as other countries have succumbed to the economic woes of the day and we have political stability where others in the region are mired in conflict. As a nation and as a people we have a lot for which we are grateful,” she stressed.
     
    Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin indicated that it is heartwarming, when a project started and completed to the satisfaction of the government and the people of the twin-island Federation.

    Mention was then made of some of the accomplishments which have been undertaken by the government to empower nationals.
     
    The impressive development of educational opportunities at various levels, an ambitious housing programme which caters to all income earners and a job creation programme was cited.
     
     
    “This government was able to do the most for the most,” the parliamentary representative noted. “Based on our experience and our record and with God’s help and your support we will continue to improve on this record for a long time to come.”
     
    On March 6, 2000, Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas led the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party to a historic win in the country’s electoral history by capturing all eight of the contested political seats on St. Kitts.
