He received a number of lucrative prizes for his outstanding participation in the regional Caribbean Tourism Organisation(CTO) Tourism Youth Congress, held in October, 2005, during the 28th annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC).
The competition was sponsored by the Travel & Leisure magazine and Naismith Basketball Foundation, both based in the United States (US). The Hon. Sam Condor Minister of Education & Youth joined Renee Di Guilio of the Naismith Basketball Foundation, in handing over a cheque valued at US$200 and a laptop computer, to sixteen year-old Vondez.

Hon. Sam Condor & Vondez Phipps | Ms Di Guilio equally commended Vondez and is particularly pleased with his placement as she has done much work with the Nation's youth, working with the Ministry of Youth in organising the yearly youth summer camp.
In response Vondez encouraged his fellow students to work hard and get involved in opportunities to develop themselves, whether these be within the country or outside.
