Dana workshop conducted by NEMA-OFDA

By: (NEMA), Press Release

BASSETERRE (NEMA), 19th October, 2021 - The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is once again collaborating with the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA-BHA) to conduct a Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Workshop on St. Kitts. The training is being conducted by local Facilitators Terry Morris and Livingston Pemberton, as part of the on-going arrangement between the two agencies and in support of NEMA’s disaster management mandate. Messrs. Pemberton and Morris are both certified by OFDA and remain a vital component of that agency’s regional resource base.

The three-day event, which is taking place at NEMA HQ, Lime Kiln, commencing on Tuesday, October 19th targets Volunteers and other stakeholders from within the NEMA Response machinery. Deputy National Disaster Coordinator, Mrs. Claricia Langley-Stevens who is responsible for Training at NEMA, said that DANA is a very critical exercise that empowers stakeholders to benefit from and to be equipped with the necessary skill sets to give support to the agency, during times of emergency. “OFDA-BHA continues to fund such training, building a cadre of assessors thereby strengthening our capacity to respond”, she said.

“I urge participants to gain as much as they can as this will make them very valuable to the work of not only the agency, but the government and by extension the region, as well” Districts Coordinator, Bereece Williams adds her gratitude to OFDA-BHA for their commitment to the building of resilience throughout the region.

“We have been blessed to continue our partnership with OFDA and it’s officers including Ms. Anne JeanBaptiste, who continues to smile favourably on our Federation through a variety of funding and training activities. In fact, DANA has been conducted in St. Kitts and Nevis almost every year, going back as far as 2015/2016.”
