Police probing suspected criminal matter at Customs

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

...alleged ‘pay for waiver’ claim surfaces

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- LAW enforcement agents are said to be currently carrying out an investigation into an undisclosed criminal matter at Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department in the Bird Rock area.

The probe was confirmed by police today (Oct. 2`), informing reporters that “the Police Force has an investigation currently going on into a matter at Customs, however no charges have been laid and the investigation is active”.

Because of the active nature of the investigation, lawmen are tight lipped on that probe, explaining that “no additional details can be given at this time”.

However, SKNVibes understands there are reports that  an alleged “pay for waiver” scheme is ongoing at the Department.

According to reports, it is alleged that officers are taking undisclosed sums of monies to either undervalue or, more specifically, waive certain fees at the facility.
