Gays now on the warpath with Sizzla Kalonji

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - GAY activists are once again at it. This time they are speaking out against reggae artiste Sizzle Kalonji who is known for ‘burning fire’ on gays and lesbians.

Only a few weeks ago, fellow Jamaicans and artistes Buju Banton and Elephant Man had concerts cancelled due to pressure from the gay community.

According to Jahkno.com, Sizzla is currently facing the latest verbal outbursts on his European tour. The media house went on to say that sometime last week, a concert venue said it would cancel his show in Denmark if he did not change his anti-gay stance. However, the threat was later withdrawn.

Sizzla, whose real name is Miguel Collins, is known for his many uplifting, conscience Rastafarian lyrics, but, at the same time, is described as a very critical artiste.

He has made over 40 albums and has had many hits including ‘Praise Ye Jah’, ‘Black Woman and child’ ‘Woman I need you’, ‘Taking Over’,’ Pump Up’, ‘Run Out Pon Dem’, ‘Get To De Point’ and ‘Solid As  A Rock’.

In 2004, Sizzla was barred from entering the UK for several concerts and was among a group of reggae artistes who were being investigated by Scotland Yard for allegedly inciting murder through their lyrics and multiple songs contain anti-gay lyrics, as many followers of the Rastafarian Movement oppose homosexuality.

In 2007, Sizzla's concerts in Toronto and Montreal had been cancelled after protests from Stop Murder Music Canada coalition. Sizzla responded to critics with a song titled, ‘Nah Apologize’ which started out with the lyrics ‘Rastaman don't apologize to no batty-boy’.
