BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POLICE are likely to slap gun-related charges on one of their own after a female was preferred two charges in connection with a gun and ammunition find at a popular night spot.
Police informed that that a Beretta PX4 Storm Pistol and several rounds of ammunition were found in a female’s bag at the entrace of a night spot on Friday (Oct. 22).
Sylaine Phipps, 29, of Boyds Village was that female and she was slapped with charges of Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition in connection with the find.
She was in the company of an individual and both of them were taken into police custody. However, Phipps was the only one charged and has since been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.
Now, SKNVibes has learnt that the individual is a police officer and is currently on suspension from the Force, as the probe continues into the matter.
It was confirmed to SKNVibes News that the two of them were stopped by lawmen, who were conducting security checks at the entrance of a club on Fort Street, when they discovered the firearm and ammunition in Phipps’ bag.
Police in a statement to the media last evening (Oct. 27), indicated that Phipps and another individual were taken into custody. And, now, Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy confirmed to SKNVibes that the other individual, a male, remains in police custody pending the outcome of the investigation.
The file has since been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for an opinion on whether charges should be laid against him.
Commissioner Brandy however could not provide the officer’s name at the time of the interview.
