L-R) Minister Malcolm Guishard Area Representative and Mr S.S. Joshi Project Manager
    CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 17, 2006) --
Work commenced on the construction of a 5.3 metre wide road, near the Affordable Housing Project in Prospect on Monday, another component of an ongoing $10.1 million road project on Nevis designed to allow for greater access.
Minister of Lands and Housing and Area Representative Hon Malcolm Guishard during a site visit on Tuesday expressed his satisfaction with the pace of the 1.6 kilometre road project so far and explained the purpose of the project.

"The whole intension is to reconstruct that road leading from the top of Prospect right down to the bottom of the hill unto the Port Road. We are hoping that National Piling would be able to work with the type of speed with which they have started and the villagers in the area especially those persons in the Project would find it much easier to get to their homes," he said

Minister Michael Perkins Minister of Communications and Works
Minister of Communications and Works Hon Michael Perkins who was also present said that he was satisfied the project had finally begun because of delays including inclement weather had set the project was back in 2005. "The other part of that contract is the hard court in the Gingerland area and so these four things form part of a $10.1million contract. I am quite pleased to say once again that this component has started and the NIA can look forward to the other three components being completed over the next few months," he said.

Meantime, Mr S.S. Joshi Project Manager took the opportunity to thank the Nevis Island Administration for affording his Company another opportunity to make an infrastructural project on Nevis.

According to Mr Joshi, when completed the road would be 5.3 meters wide and would easily accommodate two vehicles. "We started this job from the beginning of January and we are expected to complete the asphalting by the end of May.  We hope that the rain would not hold us back and the asphalt plant will keep running so that we can achieve the completion," he said.
