Knight on suspended sentence

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- POLICE have confirmed that former Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Culture, Youth and Sports Stanley Knight has been released from prison with his sentence suspended.

On October 29, 2021, 57-year-old Knight of Dorset Village, was given a suspended sentence of two years imprisonment. With that suspension the former PS must not commit any offences during the next two years starting from the mentioned date or the two years of imprisonment will be served, with one-third given off for good behavior.

In addition, Knight must also pay compensation of $10,000 through the court in three months. Failure to pay in the time given would result in him serving six months in prison. Police in a press release said no time will be given off the six months.

Knight was found guilty by a majority verdict of 10-2 on September 27, 2021, for the offence of Indecent Assault which was committed on October 31, 2018.

Note: A suspended sentence means that the charge still remains but the individual(s) will not serve the time in prison. However, during the stipulated time the individual must be on his or her best behaviour with the law. If any law is broken, they will be forced to spend the remainder of their sentence in prison.
