By: (DBSKN), Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, 17th November 2021 – The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis (DBSKN) congratulates Delonte Lewis on his award, Most Outstanding Youth Diplomat 2021 at the World Youth Model United Nations (WYMUN) 2021 Simulation Conference last weekend in Istanbul, Turkey.

Delonte Lewis, a third-year student at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus Jamaica, who is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in International Relations, thanks the DBSKN for funding his experience.

“Gratitude is given to the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis for providing me with the necessary funding to attend this seminar. DBSKN on its 40th-anniversary celebrations continues to ensure that it is a part of the development of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Lewis. He added that the world we live in today is faced with several global challenges that need urgent response. Therefore, studying International Relations is a great way to gain a deeper understanding of global issues. This intriguing and critical subject area places great emphasis on economics, culture, education, and political science and assesses the impact they have on society. My goal is to specialize in this area and become a diplomat for my country, said Lewis.

Representing the Federation in debate surrounding The Human Rights Violations on the occupied Palestine Territory and challenging the resolutions by the United Nations (UN) to help the people of Palestine, Lewis was congratulated by the other delegates on his rhetoric and logical approach on the issue.

“I heard the speech of Delonte … he did an amazing job; his speech was rhetoric and contained logical information … I wish him the best of luck for the future,” says Delegate of Palestine, Abdul Rehman Shaikh World Youth Model United Nations (WYMUN) 2021.

Lewis in his three-day stint engaged in a plethora of activities: an Opening Ceremony, a Grand Symposium, a Diplomatic Dinner, and a night of Icebreaking on day one; Committee sessions on day two, and a day of socializing which comprised of a City Tour, a Closing Ceremony, Cultural

Performance, Gala Dinner and ended with an Awards Ceremony in which Lewis was awarded the Most Outstanding Youth Diplomat 2021. “It’s a dream come true, representing St. Kitts and Nevis in Turkey!” Lewis exclaimed. “Being afforded this opportunity is an excellent platform to gain hands-on experience for diplomacy,

WYMUN served as a platform for me to exchange ideas and resolve the most challenging global issues with aspiring diplomats from all over the world. This UN Simulation is an ideal avenue for Young Diplomats to grasp and grip the lobbying and critical thinking skillset that will enable them to become better diplomats” he explained.

He attended the conference with the intention of becoming more knowledgeable and experienced in negotiations between two groups in a result-oriented manner. Lewis wishes to encourage young persons, or future leaders to attend these conferences, as they would not only be given the opportunity to travel and explore another culture, but they would learn diplomacy, even if they aren’t a diplomat.
