BASSETERRE, St. Kitts --TEAM St. Kitts and Nevis representatives competing at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games have had mixed results thus far in their outings.
The team is composed of three athletes across two disciplines - lawn tennis and athletics.
The representative in tennis, Arina Valitova, was the first to swing into action when she hit the courts yesterday to take on sixth seeded Brazilian, Ana Candiotto.
Despite the inclement weather and a valiant effort by Valitova, the Federation’s athlete could not pull off the upset. She went down in straight sets 6-3,6-3. The defeat eliminated Valitova from further participation at the games.
Meanwhile, on the track this evening, Amya Clarke blazed her way to the finals of the Women’s 100 meters.
The US-based athlete showed maturity and experience to win her heat in a time of 11.56s.
Clarke will now face the starters gun tomorrow in the finals of that event.
