Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 30, 2021 – The principal, staff and students at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School in Tabernacle, were blessed with the generosity of past valedictorian, and Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs. Sonia Boddie-Thompson, when on Monday 29th November 2021, she donated over $1000.00 EC dollars’ worth of much-needed kitchen appliances and utensils to the school. The donation included a cake mixer, blender, 2-in1 food processor and salad maker, a set of frying pans, a set of knives, electronic can opener, bowls, rolling pin, chopping board and other useful items.

Mrs. Boddie-Thompson, while expressing her joy to present the donation, stated that she recently inquired of the principal, what were some of the immediate needs of the school and he provided her with a list of kitchen items, and she quickly gave her commitment to providing the items. She stated, “I recognize that if we start teaching children culinary skills at an early age, we can start training entrepreneurs. You are never too small to start your own, cookie business or cupcake business. I [also] recognize if the school has the requisite resources, the school can also make items that they can sell and make a profit and earn some revenue for the school. So, I am really delighted to make my contribution in this fashion.”

The principal of the Edgar T. Morris Primary, Mr. Dale Phipps, who noted that Mrs. Boddie-Thompson is no stranger to the school, thanked her for her generous donation and for promptly responding to the needs of the school. Mrs. Boddie-Thompson further pledged her unwavering commitment and solidarity to the school, which provided her with her academic foundation, and advised the principal and staff to contact her, should they need her assistance in the future.

Mrs. Sonia Boddie-Thompson is a long-standing supporter of the Edgar T. Morris Primary School and continues to offer her Sonia Boddie Promising Youth Leader Scholarship annually to assist graduating students of the institution with their transition to secondary school.
