THE Government has made an adjustment to one of the dates originally scheduled for 2021 VAT Discount Days following consultations with the business community.
According to Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, the government has shifted the first date from December 16th to 17th, after an agreement was reached with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
“Cabinet has approved the revised dates proposed by the Chamber for Friday 17th and Saturday 18th, as new dates when consumers will benefit in a major reduction in the applicant VAT rate,” disclosed Dr. Harris.
While speaking in Parliament this morning, Dr. Harris noted that on the 16th there will be a high volume cruise traffic when compared with the new date.
“One of the reasons that the Chamber has advanced was that they were concerned that on the previous date they had proposed - the 16th- is that we would have a large number of cruise ships dock in Basseterre. And that you will have an overflow of thousands of cruise passengers on December 16th,” added Dr. Harris.
The date of December 18th will remain in place as was previously scheduled.
The Police Force has also consented to have the date change implemented as security personnel will be out manning the flow of traffic, and enforcing the security and COVID-19 protocols within the various business establishments.
