BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO THOUSAND AND NINE is now the deadliest year on record in the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, as the homicide of two men earlier today (Oct. 25) in the St. Peters area has brought the year’s toll to a record-high 25.
Shortly after 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, Sylvester Harris and John Napier were brutally chopped with a machete by Jervan Browne. Police sources informed that Napier was attacked on the premises of his Cedar Grove house while Harris was assaulted within its nearby surroundings.
Police Inspector Cromwell Henry confirmed that Napier died at his home and that Harris was transported to the Joseph N France Hospital, where he subsequently died.
According to the Inspector, members of the Police Force arrested the “mentally challenged” Browne and took him into custody about an hour after the deadly acts occurred.
The double homicide marks the 25th in St. Kitts-Nevis for 2009, after the shooting death of Glenn Browne on Tuesday, October 13. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
