BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MORE information has come to light regarding yesterday’s (Oct. 25) incident in which two men were brutally murdered in St. Peters.

Thirty-seven-year-old Sylvester Harris and 75-year-old John Napier were viciously chopped with a machete by Jervan Browne late yesterday afternoon. Both men were attacked on the premises of their homes in Upper Monkey Hill.

Police investigations revealed that 52-year-old Wilfred Simmonds was also assaulted by Browne and is currently warded in stable condition at the Joseph N. France Hospital. He was treated for injuries to his forehead and chest.

According to a police communiqué, Napier was in the yard of his Milliken Estate home when he was attacked and chopped across the head with a machete. The 22-year-old Browne then went to Parray’s Housing and stabbed Simmonds in a garden outside his Upper Monkey Hill residence.

Harris was the next victim of Browne’s attack, receiving multiple stab wounds in the back of his head and neck.

Napier, a prominent surveyor, was pronounced dead on the scene by the district medical doctor while Harris was taken to the hospital, where he passed away less than an hour later.

Browne, whom police officials said is “mentally challenged”, was arrested yesterday and is in custody assisting with the investigation. The double slaying brought the Federation’s homicide total to a record 25, surpassing 23 set in 2008.
