BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE 10-year-old schoolboy of Cayon, who was charged in April 2009 with the murder of a 14-year-old boy from the same village, has been charged with another criminal offence.

Sometime during the early evening hours of yesterday (Oct. 26), rumours began circulating that the child allegedly chased an elderly man with a sharp object.

Last evening, after making contact with the then Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, he confirmed that an incident involving the lad was reported to the police.

He explained that the child was charged with “being armed with an offensive weapon” after he allegedly set chase after a 20-year-old man, armed with a machete.

Investigations made by this media house revealed that the confrontation might have resulted from an alleged puppy-stealing incident. Sources close to SKNVibes indicate that the juvenile alleged that he was struck by the man he allegedly chased with an offensive weapon. Other information reaching this media house suggests that the incident arose after the 10-year-old allegedly stole the 20-year-old’s puppy and he went to retrieve it.

On April 3, 2009, 14-year-old Bejay Dore died in the vicinity of Maynard’s Park after he was stabbed with a sharp object. It is alleged that an altercation ensued between Dore and the 10-year old over a ball, following which the 10-year-old went to his grandmother’s house and returned with a knife which was used to stab Dore.

The alleged offender was taken into police custody and subsequently charged with murder. He was later granted bail to which were attached a number of conditions.

The juvenile is expected to appear before the court shortly, and investigations into this and the most recent incident are ongoing.
