BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER two nights of eliminations, eight of the Federation’s calypsonians moved through to the Finals of the competition slated for later this month.
King Astro, King Socrates, Queen Independent, King Hollywood, Queen Kibi, Lady Diva, Murray and Takeover are the finalists of the competition where they will square off against reigning Monarch, Queen Queeny G.
Following the eliminations, the qualifying pack was led by King Astro who amassed 380 points and was closely followed by King Socrates with 370.
In the third spot was Queen Independent who registered 365 points, while she was closely followed by King Hollywood with 362.
Commenting on the competition thus far, Carnival Chair Shannon Hawley said the eliminations went well.
“It was a tie in the competition, so we now have eight finalists plus the Queen, which makes it nine finalists,” she disclosed.
The committee is looking forward to the Finals of the competition which is slated for December 30, and the Chair is expecting great performances from the artistes.
“You would have heard the songs, they were very tight in terms of scores over the two nights. You have the typical why wasn’t I in or they cheat. But the judges' decision is final and so we are now in a position where we can support and promote those finalists for the competition,” Hawley added.
Meanwhile, activities continue for this year’s celebration with the National Steel Pan ‘Pan-o-rama’ Competition slated for Saturday. Seven bands are expected to compete in the competition.
