BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- ANOTHER financial institution is warning its customers of fraudulent messages that could affect personal information of those using its services.
This time its the CIBC FirstCaribbean, which, in a media, statement, warned its clients to be wary of fraudsters pretending to be staff members carrying out a survey on behalf of its branch in St. Kitts.
“It has come to our attention that unauthorized individuals alleging to be employees of CIBC FirstCaribbea have been requesting valuable information, from our clients, through a survey. We wish to alert members of the public that this is an ongoing scam,” said the Bank’s Country Head (ag) in St. Kitts, Starlina Roserie.
She reminded that the Bank “will never ask its clients to provide their Social Security number, ATM or debit card PIN, or any other sensitive information through an email, survey, phone call, text message, social media”.
Roserie is strongly advising clients to refrain from engaging in conversations with persons who request their information through a survey or otherwise.
“If you receive a suspicious call, visit, text, or email from someone claiming to be a CIBC FirstCaribbean representative, do not respond and contact your branch to verify any request,” she added.
This is the second such warning in recent weeks, following that issued by Republic Bank Limited of a WhatsApp scheme making rounds within the region.
In Basseterre, the Bank warned that the messages claim that the institution has a promotion and, when the links are accessed, users are then re-directed to a website other than that of the RBL to answer and provide personal details for a chance to win cash prizes.
“Republic Bank Limited urges persons to refrain from clicking on any links, replying to messages or downloading any items surrounding this scam. Even if the link looks legitimate, we can confirm that it is a phishing link,” said Sherwin Forte, Manager Corporate Security.
Meanwhile, many people in the Federation continue to receive a number of frauds purportedly from Samsung to be part of a promotion.
Samsung has warned that they have nothing to do with that promotion.
