BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (MARCH 9TH 2004) – A ceremony Thursday morning will mark the official opening of the United States Peace Corps Office in St. Kitts and Nevis and the Swearing-In of 10 new Peace Corps officers.
Newly-appointed Assistant Peace Corps Director for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Miss Roslyn Hazelle, will chair the ceremony which begins at 11:30 A.M. outside the Rams Building on the Bay Road.
Following the National Anthems of St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States by Gavin Charles and Peace Corps Trainee respectively, Pastor Leroy Benjamin of the St. Kitts Evangelical Association will give the Invocation.
Ms. Hazelle will give the Welcome Remarks. Addresses will be given by St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas, Washington-based Regional Director for the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Maryann Minutillo and United States Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis, Her Excellency Mary Kramer.
Regional Director Minutillo will administer the Oath to the 10 Peace Corps volunteers - seven for St. Kitts and three for Nevis.
There will be a Presentation of Certificates, a response by PCV Joshua E. Mike, a rendition by the Peace Corps Volunteers, the Vote of Thanks by Peace Corps Medical Officer, Kittitian Michele Brookes-Richards, the blessing of the building and the Peace Corps and the Cutting of the Ribbon.
Among the invited guests are His Excellency the Governor General, Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian; Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Vance Amory, Cabinet Ministers; St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United States His Excellency Dr. Izben Williams and National Director of the Peace Corps, Mr. Gaddi Vasquez
