BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation has reported its first set of COVID-19-related deaths in several months, following the peak of the fourth wave of the virus earlier this month, which is being blamed on the Omicron strain.
In its situation update yesterday (Jan. 23), the Ministry of Health reported that there were three deaths from the virus, of which SKNVibes understands two of them were on St. Kitts and the other on Nevis.
According to the data, there were 16 newly-diagnosed cases of the virus, with 619 being active and 5,270 being deemed as confirmed within the Federation.
The overall death count climbed to 31 since its last recorded amount in November. This comes as the Ministry of Health continues to push for more vaccination amongst the population.
Though the vaccination level amongst the target population stands at just above 80 percent, it has since significantly slowed down.
